Isolated trees, trees with historic value, especially tall trees, trees located on hilltops, and trees that have previously been struck by lightning are all candidates for lightning protection. The debris from lightning struck trees has the potential to cause massive damage to nearby property, in addition to killing the tree. By fastening woven copper wire attached to solid copper terminals throughout the canopy and spliced to a ground rod ten feet deep, the power of the lightning is channeled through the wire rather than the tree. Contrary to popular belief, these trees do not act to attract lightning. An optional fuse can be installed to act as a strike counter. (pics included)
